Senior Service Learning Project Self-Evaluation
For my Senior Service Learning Project I volunteered at the St. Vincent for Children & Families and also volunteered at the The Heart Group at the Heart Hospital in Newburgh IN. Starting with The Heart Group how it came to my attention along with St. Vincent is when I submitted an application on the Evansville Volunteer website. I already contacted The Heart Hospital because I went there when I was having trouble with my heart. Using my time with this project I went to The Heart Hospital one day than the next went to St Vincent. I started off with The Heart Group preparing them for Thanksgiving by making turkeys and coloring and asking the children what they were thankful for. Along I went to St. Vincent on December 7th for the Santa Breakfast. I greeted and served each families with unlimited breakfast. Then lead the family to get their gifts and to meet Mr. and Mrs. Claus. I completed both projects by December 7th which made St. Vincent my last completed volunteer hour. During my project I spent at least 30$ in funds for crafts. Riley Hospital Child Life helped me to get this opportunity to volunteer at the hospital. Giving me the best advice throughout my project. Personally I have never completed a projects like, but i would recommend this to anyone to give back and help out in your community. Throughout both projects I learned that you must give back to the ones that gave to you and you should help out and your community and see things that others don’t really think about. To the future seniors I recommend that you to complete a project like this because it can really change your view on a lot of things. This project overall gave me a different outlook on life and changing someone else life at the most. Honestly I can’t compare this project to any project I’ve ever done. The problems I have encountered while doing this project was getting all my hours and completing it. It was tough getting everything together and getting a hold of people to do this project but I kept trying and trying and I finally got a hold of someone and completing it all. My project is different because I worked with kids that had all types of defect with their hearts that are currently in the hospital and talking with their families. If I got the chance to redo this project I would do all my hours at the hospital and meeting more children and using my time wisely. The grade I would give myself would be a C because of the way I used my time and how I wasn’t prepare but overall I wish to do it again.
